An X-Men live-action television series is being reported to be in development by Fox.
'24' producers, Evan Katz and Manny Coto are said to be involved with the series, along with Star Trek 3 writers, Patrick McCay and J.D. Payne. THR is reporting that all four will share a 'created by' credit, with Katz and Coto serving as the showrunners for the series.
Of course, 20th Century Fox owns the movie rights for the X-Men series, however, Marvel still needs to sign off the deal to let the television series happen. It's unclear how supportive Marvel will be of the deal, with them already having successful shows on ABC, Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter. Along with a slew of new shows about to debut on Netflix, starting with Daredevil.
Gary Newman, Chairman of Fox Entertainment, sounded optimistic about the series. "It's in negotiations," Newman confirms. "We're cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative." So it seems we should not expect the series to appear on our television screens before 2016/17.
