Arrow and The Flash haven't even started their seasons, yet the news about their highly anticipated crossover episodes is already making the rounds. It was the eighth episode of Arrow, when we first met Barry Allen, and now a full year later, the eighth episodes of both these shows will feature their most ambitious episodes till date.
Andrew Kreisberg, Executive Producers for both the shows, talked about the crossover episodes recently in an interview. Regarding The Flash's episode, which is titled "The Flash vs. Arrow", he said, "You put the winner first! Wait no, it’s a tie. I’m teasing."
As for getting the Arrow fans to tune in to the episode (as if they needed any more reasons), he had this to say:

We have one of the biggest surprises on ‘Arrow’ of all time on ‘The Flash’ episode. And both episodes are really important for Barry’s growth… There’s a line in there that I will spoil because every time Grant said it, [I cracked up]. He goes, ‘When I fight you, it is literally like you’re standing still.’ And what’s hilarious about it is the unbelievable joy with which Grant delivers that line.
What could the surprise be? Arrow is definitely no strangers to throwing a wrench in the works, having had a great deal of twists and turns in the two seasons it has aired. "Biggest surprise" is certainly a bold claim. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
The Flash and Arrow might have the same team of producers working on them, and may exist in the same universe, however, when it comes to their tone, no doubt there is a huge difference. While Arrow's Starling City is more dark, serious and gloomy, Central City seems to be more bright, lighthearted and upbeat. When talking about this change of tone, Kreisberg commented:

When we were working on the script, we realized that the best part of ‘The Flash’ episode was this meta commentary on how serious everyone is in ‘Arrow,’ and so there’s a lot of jokes at Oliver’s expense in ‘The Flash’ side of it. But then what was fun was when we went to do the ‘Arrow’ side of it, it became the reverse, where Barry and Caitlin and Cisco… all have to face ‘Oh wow, what you guys do is serious.’ So they’re sort of playing at a different level.
Kreisberg's fellow EP, Marc Guggenheim also talked about the crossover recently, and hoped to make it similar to The Avengers. Here's the full quote:
It’s so freakin’ awesome! It really is. I’ve never had so much fun writing a script before, maybe in my life. It was such a blast to work on. We’re filming the Arrow episode right now, and it’s just so much fun. I keep telling everyone that we should try for Avengers. It’s these two heroes together with a big production value. We’re blowing out the doors on this. There’s the opportunity for inside jokes, and seeing all of the characters together. What happens when Cisco gets his eyes on Thea? There are moments like that, that you just can’t do in a normal episode. It’s just so much fun. It’s really going to be a blast. Jesse Warren is directing it, and he is just crushing it. Those dailies are really, really insane. Nick Tarabay plays Boomerang/Digger Harkness, and he’s amazing. And that weapon is a whole new visual language in the show, and a whole new visual language for our stunt guys to work with. And watching Grant and Stephen together is just magic.
The third season of Arrow is set to return on October 8th on The CW. The Flash will premiere on October 7th, 2014 on The CW and will feature a cameo from fellow DC/CW superhero, The Arrow.
