At their PaleyFest panel yesterday, producers of the upcoming superhero drama, The Flash, confirmed that they eventually do plan to add another Flash, Wally West, to the show.
As is already known, the Wests in the show are African-American, which means if Wally West was ever to be introduced, he would be the same as well. This of course is a deviation to his more classic, adorable-red-headed white male version.
The eventual introduction of the character was a point of discussion at their panel, and when asked about if we would ever see an African-American Flash on the show, producer Greg Berlanti said, "We made Wests African-American so that we could head in that direction." Andrew Kreisberg, was also quick to add, "When DC reintroduced Wally [in the New 52], he was African-American."

Interestingly, Kreisberg also confirmed that the changes in the comics were made in-part to accommodate the show. "What's very cool is in the New 52 they hadn't reintroduced Wally," he said. And since they're working on the show with DC Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns, Kreisberg added, "when they reintroduced Wally, they made him African-American. So now and forever, Kid Flash will be African-American."
Prior to the New 52 reboot, Wally West was relatively in the same age group as other members of the Justice League. The character, made popular by the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series, was also one of the founding members of the Justice League in that version. However, when the character made his debut in the New 52, he was quite different. Not only was he African-American, he was also much younger and had a different backstory and personality.
What do you guys think? Would you prefer Wally West to eventually take the reigns over from Barry? Or is he better suited as Kid Flash on the show?
